Analyzing Mio Momono’s Violent People 100 Case

For those unfamiliar, Mio Momono is one of Marvelous’ brightest talents, a plucky underdog babyface who I think anyone – even people who aren’t particularly into joshi puroresu – could get behind. In this article, I’ll analyze her Violent People 100 case through two key criteria.

Versatility:

Whether Momono was facing rookies or seasoned veterans, she delivered every time out. Against someone like Ai Houzan or Maria, she was a reliable wall to overcome, whereas when Momono faced Chihiro Hashimoto or Mayumi Ozaki, she made you believe she was capable of toppling mountains with her tenacity and fierce offense. Momono also had her fair share of solid tag-team performances, linking up with Mika Iwata and Nanami, two pairings that provided completely different dynamics. But one of the more surprising aspects of Momono’s game is that she’s a quality brawler, as shown through her OZ Academy work.

Great Matches:

Since the Violent People 100 is strictly focused on in-ring work, this is the biggest factor that makes Momono a top-ten contender for me. Momono has no shortage of fantastic bouts across a wide variety of opponents. The Mayumi Ozaki match from OZ Academy stands out above the pack as the crown jewel of her 2023, but other contests against Arisa Nakajima, VENY, Mika Iwata, Chihiro Hashimoto, Masha Slamovich, and more prove Momono’s capable of creating magic with virtually anyone she’s put in the ring with.
